I am seaming very loosely just so that you can see where to pick up the stitches.
Match the ribbing.

You can add a cuff if you wish…
I hand knitted the cuff on Eden’s Graduation Shrug. I could have just as easily worked the cuff on the USM prior to seaming the arms.
Using size 8 circular needles, pick up stitches evenly around the arm edge and knit a 1X1 ribbing for 5 rows.
Change to size 5 needles and continue ribbing for 2 rows.
Row 3: k2tog, p2tog, k1, p1 (repeat till the end of the row)
Row 4: knit all stitches.
Repeat rows 3 & 4 until there are only 14 stitches remaining on the needles.
Knit 4 rows and bind off.
Crochet edge:
In the first stitch 1 sc
In the second stitch 1 hdc
In the third stitch 3 dc
In the fourth stitch 1 hdc
Repeat.

Make sure the empty needle latches are
open and that they catch the next row of stitches.
K 6 Rows

position. Make sure the latches are open and knit the row slowly.

The next row of eyelets are made by placing stitch #1 over stitch #2
and then stitch #3 over stitch #2 of the 3 stitches that are between the 4
stitches of the cable.
There
will be 3 stitches on the cent needle between the cables. Bring these needles
to the forward working position to knit the next row and avoid dropping
stitches. Make sure the needle latches are open.
Knit 6
rows and add another row of 4 stitch cables.
Knit 6 rows and begin the last row of eyelets.
This row of eyelets will involve the “outside” stitches of the
cable.
Place stitch #1 of the cable on the needle to the right and
stitch # 4 on the needle to the left of the cable. Stitches #2 & 3 are left
on their respective needles.
Bring forward the empty needles and the
needles with the doubled up stitches. Make sure the stitches are behind the
latches and the latches are open before you knit the next row slowly.
K 2 Rows
Change to KP .3
Knit 20
rows and convert to 2X2 ribbing.
Crochet cast off
Remove the rag hem by pulling the ravel cord.
See the differences between the double e-wrap cast on and the
crochet bind off edges?
The double e-wrap edge is the neck edge
on this shrug. It has a bit more body than the looser crochet bind off edge,
which will give a little flair around the back and waist area.
Turn the
wrong (purl) side of the shrug towards you.
Fold the
ribbed edges so that they meet. Seam
